Zonals

26/11/18

On tuesday, (27/11/18) a few chosen tuakana athletes were chosen to go to the zonals athletics day. I will write an update on wedensday, when it has been. But it is tomorrow, and I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO nervous! You never know what could happen. You could get disquailfied, or you could knock down the pole in high jump.

Events I will be competing in:
1. 100m sprints
2. 800m or 400m sprints
3. High jump
4. Relays

28/11/18
(One day after athletics)

On athletics day I can't tell you how nervous I was. The 800m was first, and all the 11, 10 and 9 year old girls got ready to race. We were lined up in our schools behind our cones, but me and Amaria were the farthest away from the man who was speaking, and we were the closest to the roaring crowd. And authough we were trying to listen, we couldn't hear anything. We watched as another group of girls got up and lined up. But the lanes were full so we couldn't have raced anyway. About 7 to 10 seconds later, We realised that they were the 10 year old girls. (But of course we didn't hear that, and the lanes were full?!) So we started running, but of course we came last! It was so unfair how we couldn't hear what he was saying!!! Next it was 100m for 10 year old girls. Luckly, I got to my race on time. THREE, TWO, ONE- BANG!  and I was surging foward! In my peripheral vision I could see I was tying with a girl on my right, and a someone else who was on my left was in front of me a little. When we got to the end, somone yelled "Red"!!! Oratia! you came second! I was so exited! I had come SECOND! I sat down, proudly smiling. About thirty seconds later the same person yelled "Oratia"! Seeing as I was the only person from Oratia, I stood up. "Your not in the finals! You came third. The placing person got it wrong. Go back to your seat now" I was so annoyed! How can they realise that without seeing the race again? And besides, I was tying with the person, she definatley was not in front of me. But then, after a while of sitting and watching- It was relays. My favourioute event. This couldn't go wrong! And luckly, It didn't. My team had trained to pass the battern swiftly without dropping it. We also had trained to say GO! before they had got there to pass the battern. It helped a lot. The last event, was high jump. I made it until 1.10 meteres when I knocked down the pole. Then It was FINALLY time to go back to school! Athletics was really fun overall!

I am unable to get pictures because there were no I-pads for taking photos sorry.

  2. Wow! I thought you did awesome, even If you didn't win anything. I was sooooo annoyed because I saw you come second! How unfair! I thought It was good how you added a list of the events you did. I got to about 1 meter 10 last year In high jump. Next time maybe you could do nothing because It was great. Hopefully, you could update It again and add some photos.
